The law school personal statement

A recent article in the National Jurist magazine showed
the difficulty in answering this question:

"...there are ten law schools with average starting
salaries above $100,000, there are 58 with salaries of
$60,000 or less."

How can tell you gauge your earning potential? Well,
highly ranked ABA schools in large Urban areas tend to
feed their graduates into the highest paying jobs.  Non
ABA schools and rural, regional schools tend to make
up the lower part of the salary spectrum.

This raises an obvious point. If you attend a law school
that costs $14,000 and obtain a job as a federal
contracts lawyer (an excellent job mind you!) making
$57,000 per year to start, you are doing pretty good.
What if you spend $35,000 for a similar legal education
and go out and get the same $57,000 a year
education? How are you doing then?

Luckily, for all law school graduates that work in the
following fields salaries are substantially on the rise.

Salary growth from 1996 to 2006:

Law firms (250+ associates)      86%
Law firms (101-250)                  75%
Law firms (51-100)                     54%
Law firms (26-50)                       56%
Law firms (2-25)                         33%
Prosecutors                                39%
Judicial Clerks                            33%
Legal Services                            29%
