There are three things that you need to know right now
if you, like most prospective students, want to get into
the very best school possible. The reality is that nearly
anyone with a college degree can get into law school
somewhere. However, this doesn't mean that you
shouldn't try to be admitted to the best possible law
school you can get into (and afford). Thus, the following
three things that are absolutely critical to your success.
First, you need to do everything in your power to
maximize your undergraduate GPA. This means good
grades. A's are best, B's are ok. But seriously, you
need to be gunning for north of a 3.5 undergraduate
GPA.
Second, your Law School Admissions Test (LSAT)
score will do more to decide your law school future than
nearly any other factor. Did you know the majority of
LSAT test takers don't even bother to study. If you've
got more than 6 months until you take the LSAT -
you're in great shape. Start working today. If you've got
less than 6 months left you're going to need to start
studying immediately and working hard. Just the simple
act of reading the basic rules and strategy of LSAT test
taking will make a difference in your score as will taking
a few practice tests.
Third and finally, buy a law school primer to help get
you psyched up for your big law school adventure. I
highly recommend Covert Tactics for Law School
Admissions. Trust me, this is the best $27.99 you will
ever spend. This great guide by H. Jefferson will do
more to prepare you for law school than anything else.
Last, even if you have already begun applying to law
schools and are experiencing failure - Jefferson's book
can make a huge difference for you. It will give you
legions of ideas on how to make you more appealing to
prospective law schools. I don't care if you have a bad
gpa for law school, low lsat, average lsat or bad lsat
scores, you can still learn a few tricks and techniques
that will make a big difference for your future.
